Another year older. Clock ticked to 36 years young, November 9th. Isn't it lovely when you see your birthday in letter and number form? Its beautiful and dear to my heart. This year I hope I wake up everyday and absorb my blessings. I want to take not even a second for granted. Ive said it a millions times, LIFE IS WHAT YOU CREATE IT. Each day is New. These eyes only see the good. Everything else can float on. I'll create my own world, why not? We are only here for a short time. I'm free from proving anything to anyone. I'm comfortable in my own skin. Why do some people see aging as taboo? I never had this sense of freedom in my twenties.
This is pretty awesome!
Mazzy Star at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View
I was 13 when I first heard Fade Into You on the radio. With no influence or the internet, I was obsessed. My 1st Real Band Crush. I'm still in love.
This video rules on so many levels. I love how Robert Smith recedes back n forth into the stage darkness. "I hear her voice! Calling my name!" GAAAWWD! I love this song. Its so clever(like every Cure song). Is it just me, or does he share a slight resemblance to a young Joe Strummer & John Cusack?
Sometimes You Wanna Go Where Nobody Knows Your Name
There is certain negative energy going on in my (down)town. Its really prominent some nights more than others. I don't want to focus on the details, because its useless. While I was out this song keep playing over and over in my head. Why is everyone so unhappy?
Check out this clever film, set out to have that 1960's Technicolor Vibe. Anna Biller is truly divine. She did production, costume design and set design. That beautiful pentagram rug, she hand made!! Yep, she did that rug in a hand-hook style. She did the paintings, the costume and all of "Elaine's" wardrobe. This film with lavish use of color was also, Written, Produced and Directed by Miss Anna Biller! Let's all applaud. ♥ The film is currently making its round thru the film festivals, not sure when it will be available to stream, but i'm keeping my eyes peeled.
Circa 1987. My sister and I would record songs off the radio, try to write down every verse, and practice our singing skills. Remember hitting "Play" & "Record" at the same time??? haahaa! So this song right here, I was so stubborn, I would practice till I pissed my sister off, because she wanted to practice her song(probably Paula Abdul). Its crazy at 7 years old I had High Hopes to sound as flawless as Whitney Houston. Thank god I never sang this at a school talent show.
Lately Ive been on the "Stranger Things" Netflix Binge. So ive been reminiscing on my childhood. Dude! Being a kid in the 80s was so cool. We played outside, skateboarded, roller skated, had club houses, told ghost stories, played Bloody Mary in the Girls Bathroom, ate Otter Pops, and had cool VH1 & MTV Award Shows. I could go on and on.... Yea, so that Netflix Series, Stranger Things, go watch it if your an 80's Babaye! The soundtrack is pretty sick too
Im not trying to say The Bravery sampled any part of Duran Duran's Careless Memories. Or that they sound the same. So please dont get your panties in a bunch. BUT!!! I must say when I heard Careless Memories, the first thing that came to mind was " Hey, this sounds like a Bravery song". I can hear the Shared Essence. Totally! So I figured I'd post to about it.
My first music obsession without anybody's influence was Mazzy Star the summer of 1993. I collected every album, spent time at Rasputin listening to the any/all albums till I could afford to buy them. Then it trickled over to Hope Sandoval and The Warm Inventions. And guess what??? They are back with a new album, "She's in the Wall"
I swear my social life is controlled by live music.
If I dont have a show to look forward to, my life feels bleak.
So I'm constantly on the look out for the next best high.
That truly is what it feels like to me when I watch a killer band live.
Anyway, today I purchased my Pentagram tickets!! And the BOOKING GODS have answered my prayer, haaha! Wax Idols (whom I see with Modern English in May as well) and King Woman are the Special Guests. Fuuuckinnnnggg Killerrrrr! I'm seriously dying right now. SO, check out some of the songs I'm excited to see
** ALSO, check out this Bobby Leibling Documentary**
My long time friend (who lives in Philly) and I are meeting there! I cant wait to explore all the haunts, cemeteries, Garden District and take a Swamp Tour. We are staying in the French Quarter so thats pretty rad!
I hear the food and music are amazing!
Lately Ive been reading up on the history of the different districts. Very interesting.
For the sole purpose of creative pleasure, I finally did a photoshoot. I had a major creative block for the majority of 2015. I thank David Bowie's time travel to the other side on January 10th. He has lifted the spell.
On 1/25/16 I set out with my close friends and we drove around town raising hell.
